Open water coaching

Duration: 60 mins + ( duration is at the discretion of the swimmer) Cost: please see individual sections. Sessions include all aspects of open water acclimatisation, wetsuit fitting, stroke and technique analysis, fitness and stamina assessment, transition training, distance training, fears addressed.

Venue: Ellerton Lake, Richmond, Windermere, Lake District, Buttermere Lake District, Loch Lomand ( should you require a course running at any other location please contact me to make arrangements.)

Introduction Sessions: These sessions are aimed at swimmers who are looking to get into open water for the first time, or those who wish to improve their aquatic skills and build confidence levels.

Sessions can be group or 1-2-1. Groups sessions are based on individuals abilities and experience to ensure that all participants progress at their own speed Cost £60

1-2-1 Sessions: These are tailored to meet individual needs and are ideal for those starting out in open water swimming for those those unsure which level they many require Ideal for those at the very start of their open water journey or those swimmers that feel they don’t fit into the skills levels (either below or above) for the group sessions. Dates and Times to suit (depending on availability), Cost £35 per hour.

Both Group and 1-2-1 sessions are approx. 3 hour one off sessions where swimmers are introduced to the open water. Session can be run at times to suit groups or individuals with 1-2-1 sessions can be booked at any time.

All sessions will aim to cover the following topics:

Dry land – Safety briefing and description of the lake and its surroundings
Dry land – Wetsuit fitting, How to put on and fit your wetsuit to ensure best fit
Wet side – Safe entry and egress of the water
Wet side – Breathing and acclimatisation practices
Wet side – Acclimatisation swim
Wet side – Basic skills practice (sighting, stroke, breathing, turning).
Wet side – Practice swim
Wet side – Safe egress of the water and wetsuit removal
Dry side – Safe warm up

All swimmers will need to bring:

Wetsuit (triathlon/swimming suit) – optional in temperatures of 19 degrees or more howeever recommended for these sessions due to the stop start nature of skills development
Bright coloured swim hat (or two)
Swimming gloves/boots (optional)
Ear plugs/nose plugs (optional)
Towels/shower kit
Dryrobe/Robies robe

Nervous or worried swimmers, it is recommended that you contact me initially prior to booking as a 1-2-2 informal session may benefit you more.
